Scanner Requirements, Tips and Tricks

There are many barcode manufactures and technologies available today. The Uniform Solution team is most familiar with the Datalogic Gryphons, however most scanners should work as long as they are programmable to handle the following:

  1. Interleaved 2 of 5 Barcode Language aka I2of5
  2. Must be able to scan between 8-12 Characters. Many barcode scanners have you enter a character range as it improves functionality.
  3. Carriage Return. This is like hitting enter or return. It will move the cursor to the next line once the scan is complete.

Most models will come with documentation or have some sort of scan sheet available on-line. Typically a quick Google search by model will provide a good reference point to find the three items listed above. Most of them will have pages and pages of programming barcodes. It can be a bit overwhelming to sift through those. We strongly encourage you to contact the manufacture first as they are very familiar with their specific scanner models. If you find yourself needing a bit more guidance, feel free to reach out to our support team and we can certainly take a look at the documents together.
